MSW Admissions Process
Master of Social Work applicants must complete the Illinois State University Graduate School online application, which includes the School of Social Work supplemental information. Your acceptance to the MSW program is contingent on admission to the Illinois State University Graduate School.
Follow these steps (in this order):
- Choose whether you will be pursuing the Child and Family Practice; School Social Work or Gerontology concentration. If you are applying to the School Social Work concentration, you must take the Basic Skills Test. These test scores are required to complete your application for the School Social Work concentration.
- Apply with the Graduate School by completing the online application.
- You will need to create a Welsome2ISU account to begin the on-line application process. Once you’ve created a Welcome2ISU account you can check the status of your online application, learn more about financial aid, pay your enrollment confirmation and deposit, complete your residence hall application-contract and meal plan contract and make a Preview reservation.
- You will need to select either Summer (advanced standing applicants only) or Fall (full program applicants only) term to begin the graduate program. The application deadline for both terms is February 15 of the year you would start. We start accepting applications five months before the deadline, or September 1.
- At the time of completing your application, you will be able to upload your resume and personal statement.
- The recommendation letter will need to be mailed or emailed to our department separately by your recommenders.
