A Women's Studies Concentration is offered by the School of Social Work and the Women's Studies Program. It enhances the social work major by integrating a working knowledge of gender issues with the generalist BSW degree.
| WGS 120 | 3 credit hours |
| SWK 329 | 3 credit hours |
| Two Electives | 6 credit hours |
| Total: | 12 credit hours |
(see below for sample plan of study)
Students may be allowed to do a different field practicum for 329 and 398, as long as they were both women and gender focused. Dr. Edmonds-Cady has to approve the practicum focus.
WGS 120 should be taken by the Junior year. It is sometimes (but not often) offered in the summer, for those students who may have decided late that they want to do the WGS concentration. If students come on board in their junior year, they would need to take WGS 120 the summer before (if it is offered) or take an overload in the fall semester of their Junior year.
Some Course Options for Electives:
Focus on Theory (choose two): PHI 246: Feminist Philosophies; PHI 202: Sex, Values, and human Nature
Focus on Criminal Justice (choose two): CJS 307: Family Violence, Cross Cultural Perspectives; CJS 339: Woman and Criminal Justice
